The Career Switcher program is an online alternate route to licensure that will prepare you to become a middle or high school teacher in as little as a year. Designed for those looking for a career change, you’ll learn how to transition to teaching, manage your classroom and develop your curriculum. You’ll also explore how to assess and evaluate students under the mentorship of a seasoned instructor. Presented from a Christian worldview, through this alternative route to licensure program, you can earn initial licensure to teach in the Commonwealth of Virginia. This program is supported by award-winning professors who are available online or on campus in Virginia Beach to help you.

Regent’s Career Switcher graduates come from all types of backgrounds and professions, such as ranking military, pastors, engineers, bankers and stay-at-home mothers. One thing they all have in common is a desire to be a teacher. If you have a passion for inspiring others through teaching, taking this journey will place you on a fulfilling path to changing children’s lives through the power of education.

  • Complete 24 graduate-level credits. Complete coursework (Level I) and first year of teaching (Level II) in as little as 16 months.
  • Apply your credits toward a master’s degree, if desired. You can earn more than half of the credits needed to obtain your M.Ed. Individualized Degree Program or M.Ed. in Curriculum & Instruction.
